One of the most valued aspects of our practice continues to be the firm’s dedication to focusing on tax issues at the earliest possible stage of each transaction. We endeavor to find ways to add value by discovering innovative approaches to reduce the client’s tax burden, thereby increasing the overall economic benefits of the deal and often providing the key to a successful transaction.
Additionally, our attorneys understand that tax planning must be balanced with the other challenges every transaction faces, including operational, accounting, regulatory and financial considerations. We not only identify obscure but potentially costly tax issues, but solve them with the highest level of expertise.
Hiring highly skilled in-house tax technicians is very expensive and there are very few to choose from. Outside Advisors from Law and/or Accounting Firms cost even more. Typically, an outside Advisor will cost approximately between US $500-700 per hour. And then, this will not include the necessary implementation, as outside Advisors generally do not implement their plans. And if they are available, considerable additional fees will be applicable.
Our models differ significantly from that of typical outside Advisors. The founder of Chigbu & Co LLP, Mr. John Chigbu, has played the role of Vice President of Tax and General Tax Counsel (both domestic and international) for 2 multi-billion dollar high tech companies. Before that, Mr. Chigbu spent 7 years as Tax Counsel for one of the largest oil and gas companies in the world, Chevron. He has been both a planner as well as one who implements his plans. Our approach is to come In-house as an outside Advisor. We not only do the tax planning for our clients, but also implement our tax planning at no additional cost.
Chigbu & Co’s service can be 70% less than the cost to use a typical outside Advisor. Chigbu & Co offers two types of fee arrangements to their clients: a low monthly retainer or an hourly rate. In each case, our service offerings as well as fees (both retainer and hourly) are lower than those of traditional Law and Accounting firms. Here is why: Chigbu & Co’s service includes advice, planning, implementation and management of all tax related projects (such as Tax Provisions review, FIN 48 analysis, Audit defense). We do not leave our clients alone once we have done the tax planning. That is why most of our clients prefer a monthly retainer, which provides them complete access to Chigbu & Co without worrying about the costs.
